Corey Stearns

Whitchester Boys Varsity Soccer Coach, 5th Year, Corey has always had a tremendous love for the game of soccer. During high school he played on the 1989 State Championship Team, and was selected to play on the VT Lion’s Cup Team in summer of 1990. He played a year of collegiate varsity soccer at Brandeis University from 1990-1991, and continued playing recreationally when he transferred to UVM in the fall of 1991. In 2008 he started the Bethel Youth Soccer Program with Willy Walker, and was instrumental in convincing surrounding towns to follow U.S. Youth Soccer regulations for training and coaching young players. The result of these efforts was that many kids were being introduced to soccer at a younger age. In 2008 Bethel Youth Soccer had 92 kids participating and continues today to have high participation levels.

In 2012 Corey was hired for the varsity boys coaching position at Whitcomb High School. In 2014 the cooperative agreement between RHS and WHS was created and he has been the Whitchester coach since. Since 2012 the teams record has gone from 3-12 to 11-5 in 2015, and we are hoping for even better in 2016.

As a varsity coach he understands that winning is important at this level, but his coaching philosophy also centers on creating good citizens. Corey’s emphasis is on sportsmanship and team play, as they are important attributes for one’s entire life. Not just on the soccer field.
